Many people think that cats do not need grooming. It is not true at all. Yes, cats do not need as frequent grooming as dogs but they do need regular nail trim and bath. I have seen many matted cats and cats with long nails which cause injury to themselves and their family. At the Lovely Pets, we place emphasis on the wellbeing of the cats. We won't use unnecessary force which traumatise the cats. If a cat is very uncooperative, we will stop the grooming process. There are cats who start hissing and growling even inside the carrier. These cats are clearly traumatised and forcing them to do the groom will cause them unnecessary stress. Grooming cats are very different from dogs. Cats do best if they have been conditioned to groom since they were kittens. Tips for cat moms and dads to allow cats to have a more pleasant grooming experience: 1. Touch and press on the paws to extract nails preferably once a day. Give treats and praises. This will make nail cutting so much more pleasant for them. 2. Condition cats to the sound of hair dryer weekly. Often it is the sound that spook the cats more than the drying process. Cats have dense soft fur which needs time to dry properly.
