The Pomsky is a cross between a Siberian Husky and a Pomeranian and is a relatively new breed with not a lot of history behind it. The idea of breeding this canine started back in 2011 when Buzzfeed, a popular news and entertainment site mentioned about how cool it would be to have a dog that's crossed between a Husky and a Pomeranian. Since then, it has grown the popularity among pet owners. Pomskies generally look like their Husky parents but are smaller, have fox-tail and rounded skull of Pomeranians. They have compact bodies, soft, thick undercoat and are available in combination of colors such as brown, red, gray, blue, and white. They exhibit unique personalities that are the combination of their parents - outgoing, loyal, like to socialize and love to howl just like huskies but also like to yap just like Pomeranians. Talking about their health, they are relatively healthy but are prone to certain diseases such Hip dysplasia, Eye problems, allergies and other genetic diseases inherited from the parent breeds. Overall, a Pomsky is a unique canine that has their own characters, get along well with families and children, and has cute-lovely appearance that combine traits from their parents. It is suitable for all-level of pet owners and is overall a healthy breed.

Pomskies are a fairly energetic and active dog breed that require a moderate to high level of exercise daily, preferably between 50-75 minutes purposeful exercise and mental stimulation a day. They enjoy a variety of activities, such as walking, fetching, digging, agility training and swimming. However, it's important to adjust the exercise level based on your dog's interest and age. For instance, a standard-size dog requires 20%-30% of more exercise intensity compared to a miniature size. If your Pomsky is a puppy, a 5-10 minutes of walk could be enough to keep it happy and cheerful. In summary, they need daily exercise to maintain their health and wellbeing. They enjoy a variety of activities and benefit from a mix of physical and mental stimulation. But make sure not to over-exercise your dog as this breed can easily get injured and be sure to adjust the intensity based on its age.
A Pomsky is relatively a high maintenance dog (not as high as the Husky) as it sheds quite heavily and even more so during the shedding season. This is because of the thick furry double coat that requires regular brushing and grooming to keep them dust-free.
Here are some grooming requirements and recommendations Pomsky:
Brushing: We recommend grooming your dog at least 1-2 times a week to maintain the coat health and keep them moist. Due to the thick double coat nature of their fur, their coat can easily accumulate dust and debris
Bathing: Due to their outgoing nature which can get their coat dirty quickly and the hot humid temperature of Singapore, we recommend bathing your dog regularly, at least 1-2 times per week. Use a mild dog shampoo (we recommend Silky shampoo) and be sure to rinse thoroughly to avoid any skin irritation. Lastly, remember to blow dry to make sure the skin is completely dry to prevent skin issues.
Trimming: They also require occasional trimming or clipping, particularly around the pads and between the toes to prevent overgrowth and tangles and maintain a tidy appearance. Bring your dog to a professional dog groomer every 3 months for a full grooming service to get the best result.
Nail Clipping: Their nails should be trimmed regularly to prevent them from getting too long and causing discomfort or injury. Be sure to use a sharp, proper nail clipper and avoid cutting too close to the quick. Leave the cutting to the Professional dog groomer to avoid traumatizing the puppy if nails bleed during cutting (which is very common).
Teeth Cleaning: Regular teeth cleaning is important for your dog to prevent dental problems. Brush their teeth with a soft-bristled toothbrush and use a dog-specific toothpaste.
Ear Cleaning: Pomsky's ears don't require a lot of cleaning as they are not flops. Over-cleaning can lead to ear infections. For cleaning, we recommend you clean them with a gentle, dog-specific ear cleaner to prevent buildup of dirt and bacteria in the long run.
Overall, a Pomsky requires similar amount of brushing, grooming, bathing and grooming to its parents, although in a lesser amount, mainly due to its small size.
