Exercise Requirements

Bernese Mountain Dogs have moderate to high exercise needs, and require regular physical activity to keep them healthy and happy. They are a large and active breed that enjoys outdoor activities and can become bored and restless if they do not receive enough exercise.
Here are some guidelines for exercising a Bernese Mountain Dog:
  1. Daily walks: Bernese Mountain Dogs should be taken on daily walks to provide them with regular exercise and mental stimulation. Aim for at least 30-60 minutes of walking per day, but be prepared to adjust the duration and intensity of the walk based on your dog's age, health, and fitness level.
  2. Playtime: Bernese Mountain Dogs enjoy playing outdoors and can benefit from regular playtime with their owners. Activities like fetch, frisbee, and tug-of-war can provide them with additional exercise and help to strengthen the bond between you and your dog.
  3. Hiking and outdoor activities: Bernese Mountain Dogs are well-suited for hiking and other outdoor activities. They are strong and agile, and enjoy exploring new environments. Consider taking your dog on hikes or camping trips, but be sure to monitor their activity level and provide them with plenty of water and rest breaks.
  4. Mental stimulation: In addition to physical exercise, Bernese Mountain Dogs also require mental stimulation to keep them engaged and happy. Consider providing them with puzzle toys, training exercises, and other activities that challenge their mind and keep them entertained.
It's important to remember that every dog is different, and exercise needs can vary based on age, health, and lifestyle. Consult with your veterinarian to determine the best exercise plan for your Bernese Mountain Dog.

Grooming Requirements

Bernese Mountain Dogs have a thick, long, and silky coat that requires regular grooming to keep it healthy and free of tangles and mats.

Here are some grooming requirements and recommendations for Bernese Mountain Dog:
  1. Brushing: Bernese Mountain Dogs should be brushed at least once a week with a deshedding comb, and more frequently during shedding seasons which is twice a year to remove loose hair and prevent mats and tangles from forming. Use a slicker brush or comb to work through the coat, and be sure to brush all the way down to the skin. When brushed weekly with a deshedding comb, you will not find many fur shedding on the floor.
  2. Bathing: Bernese Mountains needs to be bathed every week in Singapore's humid climate. Use a mild dog shampoo (we recommend Silky shampoo) and be sure to rinse thoroughly to avoid any skin irritation. Lastly, remember to blow dry to make sure the skin is completely dry to prevent skin issues.
  3. Trimming: No trimming of hair required. They may require occasional trimming of the hair around their ears, paws, and anus to keep them clean and free of mats.
  4. Nail Clipping:Bernese Mountain Dog's nails should be trimmed regularly to prevent them from getting too long and causing discomfort or injury. Be sure to use a sharp, proper nail clipper and avoid cutting too close to the quick.
  5. Teeth Cleaning: Regular teeth cleaning is important for Bernese Mountain DOg to prevent dental problems. Brush their teeth with a soft-bristled toothbrush and use a dog-specific toothpaste.
  6. Ear Cleaning: Bernese Mountain can have ear infections, so it's important to clean their ears regularly with a gentle, dog-specific ear cleaner to prevent buildup of dirt and bacteria.
Overall, Bernese Mountain Dogs require moderate grooming to keep their coat healthy and free of tangles and mats. Regular grooming can also help to prevent health problems and keep them looking and feeling their best.
