Breed Characteristics

Labrador Retrievers were originally bred in the island of Newfoundland, where they later brought to Britain and were used as companions and helpers to local fishermen in activities like hauling nets and fetching ropes. Due to their trainability, obedience, loyalty and overall active nature, Labradors have been regarded as one of the best guiding breed of dogs in the world. Looking at their physical appearance, a Labrador is characterized by its friendly-looking face, with broad, slightly pronounced eyebrows. They are available only in 3 colors – black, cream, and chocolate. Chocolate color for Labrador is considered to be the rarest one.
They are among the friendliest breed of dog you can ever find. Labrador Retrievers are good with kids and families. They are easy-going and even though they may appear to be large, they are very gentle in nature. Talking about health, a Labrador is considered be a relatively healthy breed of dog with very few major issues. On average, a Labrador costs between $8,000-$9,000 to purchase in Singapore. The price varies depending on the reputation of the breeder, the age of the dog and more.
To buy a puppy from us, here are the brief steps:

  1. Choose a wide range of Labrador puppies collection available in our shop, both male and female through our Instagram page or visit us in-person to find the most suitable dog for you and loved ones. We have a variety of puppies to choose from from different range of age, starting from 3 months old up to 1 year.
  2. Once you find your match, you can make the payment right then and there and bring home the puppy. Payment method available are cash, Paynow, Bank Transfer, NETS, or Credit Card (extra 4% charge)
  3. Shipping option is also available in case of need through  GrabPet! To book GrabPet, select Car in the Grab app home screen, input addresses and scroll down to select GrabPet under Value Added.

​NOTE: We will register the dog license with NParks before you bring the dog home. It is done online where we will transfer the dog ownership to you. The cost of the license is only $13.5 a year for puppies below 5 months old. For older dogs, there is a lifetime license fee of $35 for sterilized dogs or $81 per year for unsterilized dogs.

Exercise Requirements

Labradors are a playful, active, highly-energetic breed of dog that require moderate to high level of exercise. We recommend at least 45-60 minutes of regular exercise and mental stimulation to keep your kennel happy and cheerful. It’s also important to adjust the exercise duration to suit your dog. For instance, a puppy requires significantly lesser amount of exercise compared to an adult dog.
A Labrador enjoys a variety of activities, such as walking, fetching, digging, agility training, and others, especially swimming. They love swimming and if you do too, then this breed of dog is a perfect companion for you!

Grooming Requirements

Despite their soft, thick double-coat, Labrador Retrievers are generally low-maintenance when it comes to grooming and brushing compared to other dogs.

Here are some grooming requirements and recommendations for Labrador:
Brushing: not much brushing needed. Deshedding once a week with deshedding comb is good to remove undercoat.
Bathing: Bernese Mountains needs to be bathed every week in Singapore’s humid climate. Use a mild dog shampoo (we recommend Silky shampoo) and be sure to rinse thoroughly to avoid any skin irritation. Lastly, remember to blow dry to make sure the skin is completely dry to prevent skin issues.
Trimming: The hair length remain constant so hair cut is not necessary. Good to trim around hygiene area for cleanliness and around paw pads to prevent slipping while walking.
Nail Clipping: The toe nails need to be clipped once every few months. Best to ask a professional groomer to do this to prevent bleeding when the nails are cut too close to the quick (blood vessel).
Teeth Cleaning: Brushing teeth daily is preferred, if not possible, weekly brushing is sufficient. Give raw bones regularly as enrichment which double as natural teeth cleaner.
Ear Cleaning: Their ears may be prone to infection as it is dropping down which can trap heat and moisture especially in Singapore’s humid climate. Clean the ears with appropriate solution once a week Overall, a Labrador is a low maintenance dog that that doesn’t require regular grooming or brushing except during the time of the year when it sheds more frequently. However due to the hot weather in Singapore, you might need to keep your dog cool by bathing it a bit more regular.
