Golden Retrievers are a moderately active breed and require regular exercise to maintain their health and happiness. They are energetic dogs that enjoy outdoor activities such as walking, running, and swimming. It is recommended that a Golden Retriever gets at least 30-60 minutes of exercise and mental stimulation per day, depending on their age and activity level. Puppies and younger dogs may require more exercise to burn off excess energy, while older dogs may need a bit less. They are intelligent dogs that enjoy interactive games and toys that challenge their minds. Activities such as obedience training, agility, and retrieving games can also provide mental stimulation. Overall, providing regular exercise and mental stimulation for your Golden Retriever is important to keep them healthy and happy. A lack of exercise can lead to boredom, destructive behavior, and obesity, which can lead to other health problems. So, it's essential to make sure your Golden Retriever gets enough exercise and stimulation to live a happy and healthy life. It's important to note that Golden Retrievers can become overweight if they don't get enough exercise or if they overeat, which can lead to health problems such as joint issues and diabetes. Therefore, it's crucial to provide your dog with a balanced diet, appropriate portion sizes, and regular exercise to keep them at a healthy weight.
Golden Retrievers have a thick, water-repellent double coat that requires regular grooming to keep it in good condition. Here are some grooming requirements and recommendations for Golden Retrievers:
Brushing: Regular brushing can help remove loose hair, prevent mats and tangles, and distribute natural oils throughout the coat, which helps keep the skin health. Deshedding comb needs to be used to remove undercoat and prevent excess shedding around the house.
Bathing: Golden Retriever needs to be bathed every week in Singapore's humid climate. Use a mild dog shampoo (we recommend Silky shampoo) and be sure to rinse thoroughly to avoid any skin irritation. Lastly, remember to blow dry to make sure the skin is completely dry to prevent skin issues.
Trimming: They do not require trimming of fur, although some owners will send their pup to the professional groomers every 2-3 months for a quick trim to neaten the fur.
Nail Clipping: These dogs' nails should be trimmed regularly to prevent them from getting too long and causing discomfort or injury. Be sure to use a sharp, proper nail clipper and avoid cutting too close to the quick. Leave the cutting to the Professional dog groomer to avoid traumatizing the puppy if nails bleed during cutting (which is very common).
Teeth Cleaning: Regular teeth cleaning is important for this breed to prevent dental problems. Brush their teeth with a soft-bristled toothbrush and use a dog-specific toothpaste.
Ear Cleaning: This dog breed can have ear infections, so it's important to clean their ears regularly with a gentle, dog-specific ear cleaner to prevent buildup of dirt and bacteria.
Overall, Golden Retrievers require regular grooming to keep them looking and feeling their best. With proper grooming and maintenance, you can help ensure your Golden Retriever stays healthy, comfortable, and happy.
